As a child, he experienced the wilderness and beauty of Šipan, historical cultural heritage - ancient churces, palaces of Dubrovnik republic's aristocracy and abundant nature with omnipresent crickets and howling jackals. He promised to himself that he will return. And so he did. From an old house, he made an unique spacious studio, filled with light. He worked there for several months every year, claiming that his best works were made there.

Sharing his knowledge, he held international art workshops for the last ten years of his life  in his summer studio in island Šipan together with his son Peter Ciuha, also painter and teacher.

Ciuha's teaching was not only a method to educate, he helped his students to discover their own freedom to create, gave them assurance for their own search with his own self-confidence. This developed their work towards more unified and integrated state. Continuing this tradition, workshops are taking place this summer and are accepting all art-lovers and professional artists to experience this integral search within.

Jože Ciuha passed in Ljubljana 2015, leaving behind an artistic legacy and an imprint in our memories.
